First staged in 1999, The Weir earned Conor McPherson the Laurence Olivier Award for Best New Play that same year. McPherson has gone on to win eight more theatre awards for a wide range of brilliant works. Set in Leitrim County, Ireland in the 1990s, The Weir is a play tailor-made for fans of Irish culture and literature. This is a must see for all lovers of the supernatural. 'The Weir' was chosen to entertain and gratify all those who enjoy colourful rural characters with a flair for storytelling, drama and comedy. The shows at The Haviland and the Benevolent Irish Society essentially sold out and a relationship between ACT and those venues was bolstered. With the help of all the sponsors, the opening night at The Watermark also sold out. Thank you to our supporters: Gallant's Country Store, Pedro's Island Eatery, Matheson and Associates, Landwash Studios, the Haviland Club, Carr's Oyster Bar, Deep Roots Island Distillery, HR Atlantic, Jim Carragher of Exit Realty, Collaboration School, the Barachois Inn, and the Bookmark.
